Safflower is well-adapted to drier areas of western North Dakota and South Dakota, as well as eastern Montana. Webadapted to southwestern South Dakota. Hot, dry conditions that prevail during flowering and seed shatter that occurs at crop ripening reduce harvestable yield significantly in this environment. Table 2.
